We held no events in 2020 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The Library was closed from 21 March at the beginning of the 1st Lockdown until 6 October 2020. We reopened with limited opening hours then had to close again for the 2nd Lockdown in November 2020. We reopened in December but had to close again for the 3rd Lockdown at Christmas.
On 13 April 2021 we reopened when libraries were allowed to, again with limited opening hours and Covid-safe precautions, and have remained open since then.
Our Author Talk in December was a ticketed event so we could limit the numbers attending. Unfortunately we did not feel able to offer the usual refreshments and our audience all wore face coverings.
Author Talk: Lucy Lewis Wednesday 1 December 2021
Lucy Lewis came to the Library and gave an excellent talk to a very appreciative audience. Lucy joined the Army on the spur of the moment and after training at Sandhurst, was chosen in 1989 to become the first woman to operate as a Bomb Disposal Officer with the Royal Engineers. She subsequently served with the Royal Military Police in Germany and Northern Ireland, retiring in the rank of Major to start a family.
In 2018 Lucy made history for a second time by becoming the first woman to be appointed University Marshal at the University of Cambridge.
Lucy's amusing anecdotes kept the audience's attention throughout and gave us an insight into the less serious moments in military life. After questions Lucy sold signed copies of her book ‘Lighting The Fuse’, published in July 2021.
