Tales of the Emotosphere is a graphic novel with a fun adventure story at its heart, to engage young readers in social and emotional learning. In a galaxy beyond the Milky Way, three friends and their goofy sidekick discover a mysterious glowing orb. Through the 7 Cosmic Powers, young readers are introduced to tools for mental wellbeing, to help them cope with life’s ups and downs.

Author Talk by Peter Morfoot - 24th September 2025

Unfortunately a disappointingly small audience attended the talk and those who did not come missed a treat.
Peter, who lives in Shelford, set his series of crime novels in the city of Nice and its environs of the Côte D’Azure. Spending family holidays in this area, originally in tents progressing to caravans and now to staying in a favourite apartment in Nice, Peter has extensive knowledge of the area to call on for his Captain Paul Darac to travel around in his investigations. Without giving away any of his complex plot lines and passing around photographs of key locations in Nice, Peter explained how his central character was developed over time, long before the first book had its first draft. This first attempt was abandoned and Peter explained how he plans each whole book and its timelines before starting to write. Whilst this is currently a six book series, each can be read as a standalone novel.
After the talk Peter was joined by his wife Liz, who, as she has heard his talks before, said she spent a pleasant time in St Vigors listening to a “brilliant choir practice”. So a great evening was had by all.

Congratulations to all of the children who completed this year's Summer Reading Challenge, Story Garden, by reading 6 books and coming to talk to us about them.
We signed up 100 children and 76 children completed the Challenge.
Children attending Fulbourn, Great Wilbraham and Teversham Primary Schools received their certificates and medals in their schools.  Children not at those schools received theirs in the Library on 20 September.
The names of all those who finished the Challenge were entered into a Prize Draw and the 2 lucky winners each received a £10 Book Token.
Thank you very much to all of the young volunteers who gave up their time during the summer holidays                                                                                            to listen to the children talking about their books.

Comment from a parent after the Challenge - It was such a lovely Summer Reading Challenge and my eldest and middle children really enjoyed it.  Thank you for being great hosts!!

Thank you very much to everyone who supported us at Fulbourn Feast on Sunday 29th June.

Thanks to our excellent team of volunteers, who started work at 9 am, our 2 gazebos were set up and all of the books transported from the Library by 10.30 am.  In good time for the start of The Feast at 12 noon.

It was an extremely hot day, but a very worthwhile one for raising funds for the Library and for advertising our presence in the village.

Author Talk by Caroline Biggs - 28th May 2025

Picture
During the nineteenth century, Cambridge University became infamous for its dogged determination to cling to ancient laws, allowing it to arrest and imprison unchaperoned women found walking the streets of Cambridge after dark.

Caroline began her talk by speaking about Elizabeth Howe, a nineteen year old, who was buried in St Vigor's graveyard in 1846.  She was one of many girls imprisoned in the terrible conditions of the Spinning House.

We heard of several more strong young women, some of whom were eventually the cause of a change in the law restricting the powers of the University Proctors. They could no longer arrest and imprison women merely for innocently  walking on the streets of Cambridge.

Caroline illustrated her talk with a selection of slides of the buildings mentioned in her book.

Refreshments were served after the talk while Caroline sold copies of her book to an appreciative audience.
